Why Social Media Managers need to De-stress

People often think that the social media industry isn’t stressful and that it’s all fun because you get to handle social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. It’s completely the opposite. Regardless if you like it or not social networking sites become extensions of customer support because it’s a communication channel between you and your consumer. You will get tons of complaints and when crisis hits you’ll be roasted alive. Reading public opinon that’s totally against what you believe in will wear you down and stress you out. The best way to avoid this is to just unplug and stop looking at Twitter and Facebook for a few days. However social media managers can’t do that because it’s their job to monitor, analyze, and collate everything to come up with recommended actions and next steps. This bring me to my main point: Social Media Managers need to have a regular de-stressing activity. It’s a must because if you come to work everyday stressed productivity will go down. Your negativity will also spread like a virus in the office and maybe even at home. De-stressing is crucial.

There are different ways to de-stress. Physical activity like running, badminton, martial arts, and other sports will get your mind off work. You can also take out your husband or wife out to a date and just chill. You can hang out with friends. Whatever it takes… make it a point to de-stress regularly especially when there’s turmoil in the social media space that your company belongs in. Remember that you need a clear and sharp mind when you analyze the data and do your work.

Oh, and the most important part when crisis hits (regardless if work or personal) — pray. :)

  4. Totally agree! They need to know that social media marketing is not just about being on facebook, twitter and other social media sites. These people should know that its more about listening to target audience, connecting with them and giving them what they want.

Its more on giving them better service and customer experience.
