Okay, you can’t talk about New Media breakthroughs without mentioning one of the latest international music phenomenons of all time – Arnel Pineda. Here, we have the story of a struggling music artist who does covers of popular bands across the bars in Metro Manila, Philippines. His video of him singing the band Journey’s hit song “Don’t Stop Believing” is uploaded on Youtube. What happens next? The lead guitarist of Journey is on the other end of the world searching for performances of their songs on Youtube. He finds Arnel Pineda‘s video, decides to call him up, and next thing we know Arnel Pineda is the new lead singer of Journey.
Here’s a copy of the video that the lead guitarist of Journey found on Youtube.
ARNEL PINEDA SINGS “DON’T STOP BELIEVING” WITH THE ZOO BAND
Here’s the video of an interview done with Journey and Arnel PIneda by CBS Sunday Morning News. Here Arnel relates his life story. Apparently he lost his mother at an early age, but she gave him the only thing he would need to succeed in life – his passion for singing.
And now, here’s Arnel Pineda with Journey performing “Don’t Stop Believing” in a sold-out concert in Chile. They’re currently on a world tour, selling out stadiums all over the planet.
While this may not happen a lot, it’s a signal to all amateur music artists out there. People across all ages, nations, creeds, and influences watch videos on Youtube. You never know when the acoustic cover of that song you just made up together with a couple of friends could eventually become a global smash hit.
Professionals, artists, reporters, models – regardless of whatever your profession is, you can take advantage of all the tools provided for by the internet to be able to show your talent and skills to an international audience. If you’re good, then it’s only a matter of time before those “hundreds” of views turn into thousands, hundreds of thousands, and maybe even millions.
The question you should be asking yourself now is are you actually making the most out of today’s technology? If not, then I strongly suggest that you start soon before you get left in the dust by your peers.

“The question you should be asking yourself now is are you actually making the most out of today’s technology?”
Hey, chief! I love this question a lot! It’s such a simple question. Plainly stated. Rarely asked. But now that it’s staring at me from my monitor – it’s very challenging.
It’s all about overcoming the reluctance of self-promotion and having faith in yourself that you can get up and run again after a failure.
Pure example…say, putting up your artwork on Deviantart is cool. Lots of views and is a popular art site. Probably, someone will discover you – in a hundred years since there are about a billion and some more people doing the same thing as you. But putting your stuff on Deviantart, CGSociety, ConceptArts, all those nice art places and having tutorials up on Youtube gives you a better advantage over the others remain in comfort zone, right?
Enjoy~~
Hi Celyne! It’s been ages. When are you coming back to the Philippines? I
Anyway, I plan on writing in this blog unsolicited (ampf haha) recommendations to various professional groups on how you can improve your personal brand and service. I already have several local case studies and I’ve set interviews with them already. I believe you know one or two of them personally
There are people here in the Philippines who have already taken their craft to the next level by building their own brand and by taking advantage of the tools offered by technology.
Great narration of events. Hope your blog Carlo will encourage people to use social media to their advantage
Nice and inspiring story! Keep believing in one’ self, coupled it with will and determination and finally consistent action. We can definitely reach opur dreams. And don’t forget to ask for God’s guidance. And thank Him.
