Smart is all set to launch their HSPA+ network with the new Smart Bro Rocket Plug-it. This new product is their response to Globe’s Tonino Lamborghini Tattoo Stick. The Smart Bro Rocket Plug-it’s entry to the market puts Smart ahead since they will now be able to offer both HSPA+ and LTE.
HSPA+ Prepaid Kits!
We’ve had the Globe Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini for 2-3 months now and it’s safe to say that we’re frustrated with it. We barely go above 2mbps at home or at the office (San Juan and Fort Bonifacio). The fact that this is a postpaid service with a 24-month lock-in makes it even more annoying. We’ll chalk it up though to experience since we were given fair warning that the HSPA+ network of Globe hasn’t been fully rolled out yet. That’s probably the biggest barrier to entry for HSPA+ products: the steep price. However this is something that’s going to change with the Smart Bro Rocket Plug-it because it comes in prepaid and the rates are the same as the normal 3G Smart service. The dongle though costs Php3,995.
NBA Superstar Kevin Durant to endorse Smart
Another surprising announcement just made today — NBA Superstar Kevin Durant is Smart’s newest endorser. He’ll be pushing all the Smart broadband products. This is a huge deal considering Durant’s popularity and the Philippines being a basketball country. According to sources this deal was made when Durant was here for the 2-day NBA All-Star Weekend. Let’s see if Durant is enough to take on Globe’s array of endorsers including Cosplay goddess Alodia, Saab Magalona, and tech blogger Rico.
It boils down to the product
It’s really too early to say if the Smart Bro Rocket Plug-it is better than the Globe Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini. It’s definitely easier for us to get and buy one though since it’s prepaid so expect a full review from us at our other blog, Unbox, once this product is launched in the market. We will do head-to-head tests in several areas and share with you the speed test results.
So our advice? Don’t buy it yet when it comes out. Wait for our review.
