I was checking the SMART website because I’m going through the different phones they’re offering for postpaid for my office/professional line. One banner caught my eye though. They posted a simple tribute to Steve Jobs via a banner on their rotating header. They also put another banner with his “crazy rebels” quote at the lower righthand portion of the site. Check the screenshot above.
As you guys know Smart has no ties yet with Apple. They even went the opposite route and inked a deal with HTC to push Android but they still decided to post the tribute.
Since this got me really intrigued, I checked the site of their competitor, Globe. This company had the rights to the iPhone 3, iPhone 3GS, and they also have the rights for the iPhone 4. However I can’t find anything on their site about Steve Jobs. Here’s the screenshot:
A friend asked me if Smart is getting rights to the iPhone 4S. I honestly have no idea. For all we know the current design of the Globe website just isn’t flexible enough to put banner ads quickly.
UPDATE
Last Thursday Globe changed their profile picture on the Globe iPhone Facebook Page (with 5,000 likes) with the text “Steve Jobs 1955-2011″. They also changed the profile pic of the official Globe Telecom Facebook Page (500,000+ likes). It looks like the website just isn’t flexible for updates.
Makes a lot of sense to go this route though since most of their community is on Facebook anyway.
