The Android powered Samsung Galaxy Tablet is finally coming to the Philippines! If you think about it the Samsung Galaxy Tablet is actually coming here first before the iPad since the Apple tablet isn’t officially being sold yet locally (most are gray market). Anyway, SMART Communications is bringing the Samsung Galaxy Tablet to the country and I’m sure that a lot of Filipino techies will check their offerings.
Compared to an iPad
The Samsung Galaxy Tablet is smaller versus the Apple iPad. The touchscreen is only 7 inches making it actually more portable and lighter. Unlike the iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tablet also works as a mobile phone, has front and back facing cameras, and runs on Google’s Android operating system. It also offers data transfer via USB, something that a lot of users want Apple to implement with the iPad.

According to SMART, the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be available in various postpaid plans. You’ll have to add P16,000 if your plan is 1,500 and P4,000 for 2,000. It’s free though starting at Data Plan 3,000 upwards.
With the support of a giant like SMART, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Samsung Galaxy Tab expands the tablet market segment in the country. In fact I think they’ll sell more units than the iPad mainly because there iPad doesn’t have any local telco support for marketing and distribution (plus they haven’t launched yet officially).

How much?
hi carlo,
i tried samsung galaxy tablet here at vodafone doha and think the android system is slower than iPad’s OS (am i correct with the term). the good thing with samsung’s new product is it has some of features that actually iPhone 4 has and making it a smart phone makes really a lot of sense to me. i hope that the next generation of ipad could adapt to allow copy documents and pictures thru usb so it would be easy for all of us to quickly transfer our files.
do you have any idea when will be the next generation of iPad will be release?
Rumors are going around that the iPad 2 is coming out sometime March or April in 2011. That’s consistent with Apple’s cycle of refreshing their product line every 12 months.
I’m trying to find someone here with a Samsung Tab that can lend it to me for a review so I can do a hands on comparative analysis.
Cheers!
