I was invited to give a short keynote talk at the PROICT Cyberforum 2011 which was held at Camp Crame. The topic assigned to me was the influence of social media in the context of cybercrime. The event had around 200-230 attendees mostly teachers, government employees (TESDA/CHED/PNP), and students. Shared with the audience the latest stats on social networking sites and the internet here in the Philippines. Followed it up by discussing the impact of social media in society and how it’s not just changing community but how it’s changing the culture of the youth. Showed some examples of local case studies of cyber bullying and harassment. Ended by giving several tips and made a call to educators to not just teach how to use the computer in school but also how to use it responsibly.
Thank you PROICT for the invite!
PS: Had a great talk with some staff from TESDA. They’re looking at the online freelancing boom as a potential class to teach. That would definitely be awesome! I told them I would volunteer to teach a couple of classes for free.
