Presidential Candidate Manny Villar talks directly to his Facebook community

FINALLY. After several months into this campaign someone has done something right when it comes to social media. They should have actually been doing this since 6 months ago but what can we do, haha! To those who don’t know yet, Nacionalista Party standard bearer Senator Manny Villar posted a video of himself addressing his Facebook community. In the short 1-minute video Villar asked for the help of his fans to join him in his campaign by actively defending him and promoting him online through Facebook, Twitter, E-mail, and even through SMS.

Hopefully this is the start of more effective and engaging social media and internet marketing strategies that the campaign team will implement. This single effort alone won’t be able to bring in enough votes. The key is consistency and sincerity. If Senator Villar wants to tap the internet to the fullest, then he should definitely exert more effort in asking his online community to actively campaign for him. The next step should be to give them tools that they can use. Maybe profile pics? Twibbons?

Here’s an article I wrote way back in March that I think is very timely:

How to use Social Media to win the 2010 Presidential Elections

Good effort again to the people at Villar’s digital team. But we definitely need to see more.

  1. Im not voting for the guy but I must admit I’m really impressed by his campaign strategy (mudslinging excluded.)

I agree that this is long overdue. Something like this should have been done earlier.

Also, they could have done alternative ways to campaign on Facebook such as using those fun Fan Pages. Hell, some of them has 100k – 200k subscribers! Any advertising from them means the message gets sent to the user’s news feed!

    • Yup, there are so many things they can do. Politicians have barely even scratched the surface of what social media can do for their campaign.
