I gave a talk yesterday (Thursday) to PR executives in the “MAKING PR WORK FOR YOUR BUSINESS” seminar which was hosted by the International PR Association (IPRA) and the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP). The topic was Social Media for PR but I’ll talk about that in a separate entry. For this article I’ll be talking about the experience of presenting a Keynote presentation using the iPad. Suffice to say it was an amazing experience and I can’t see myself anymore not presenting with the iPad unless I’ve committed the entire presentation to memory and I can just use the Apple remote control.

I’ve been giving talks and seminars for months now and I can honestly say that I really enjoyed yesterday’s session not just because of the great crowd, but it was also a new experience using the iPad in a talk. Here are some of the pros and cons that I experienced:
CONS:
- You can’t play videos straight out of Keynote in the iPad.
- I didn’t have a VGA adapter specifically for the iPad.
- There was no lapel Mic so I couldn’t move around as much as I wanted to.
- The iPad becomes a strain to carry around after 20-25 minutes.
PROS:
- Downloaded the Keynote Remote App for $0.99 (P40+). This is the same App for the iPhone but it’s definitely much more user friendly with the huge iPad screen.
- Synced my iPad with my Macbook Air using Computer to Computer Network (easy to do).
- Played the actual Keynote on the Macbook Air and I just used the iPad as the remote and for presenter notes.
- The iPad has insane cool factor levels, lol. Very good ice breaker to warm up the crowd.
Ultimately the main benefit of the iPad is basically just the presenter notes function plus the coolness factor. Other than that you might be better off presenting with just the normal Apple remote control. My only problem with the Apple remote is the terrible range unlike the network solution of the iPad-Macbook which can allow you to use the iPad at a fairly good distance (compared to the Apple remote).
Thanks again to Jingjing Romero and Ritzy Ronquillo for inviting me as a speaker. It was an absolute pleasure and I look forward to attending your events again in the future. As said earlier, this post is really just for the iPad, will work on a summary entry for the event and my talk later in the afternoon or sometime Saturday.

Wow.. cool insight as to how and when you would use the iPad.. Its an item i think has tremendous COOL factor.. just not sure if i would have a Real use for it or not… already use the macbook air. Thanks for sharing your experience, definitely food for thought.
Cheers,
Roger S.
Hi. I’d like to know how did you purchase iWork considering it’s not yet available here in the Philippines? Can you please give me an idea of how to get it using my local credit card?
You said you “Synced my iPad with my Macbook Air using Computer to Computer Network (easy to do).
- Played the actual Keynote on the Macbook Air and I just used the iPad as the remote and for presenter notes.
