PLDT TelPad Launched [Updated]

Several bloggers were tweeting about a new product launched by PLDT called the PLDT TelPad this evening. I was curious so I tried to do some online research (a.k.a. Google and Twitter Search). It took me a while but I finally stumbled upon an article by Entrepreneur. Basically the PLDT TelPad is a landline and myDSL service that comes with a 7-inch touchscreen Tablet running Android 2.2. It comes with a special handset that’s actually the charging dock for the tablet.

Tablet Specs
The TelPad has a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, Android 2.2, 2GB internal capacity, SD/USB slots, HDMI, and a 2MP front camera. The service starts at Plan 1849 (1Mbps), Plan 2099 (1.5Mbps), Plan 3095 (2.5Mbps), and Plan 4100 (3.5Mbps). If you already have an existing PLDT myDSL plan, just add P500 on top of your monthly bill to upgrade to get the TelPad.

This is definitely an interesting and surprising development. Hopefully I can get my hands on one so I can share with you guys if the product is worth your money.

UPDATE: Janette Toral tweeted and posted a photo of the PLDT TelPad. Asked her if I could post it here and she agreed. Thanks Janette!

woah I want, does it have 3G and come with a Sim? I already have a PLDT WeRoam plus dongle which comes with myDSL.

I wonder if theyre going to do this promotion instead of giving away laptops with 2 year plans, tablet. Dapat mareview na to :)

yep they called back and said they will start marketing this tomorrow.

Its PHP500 per month extra on top for existing subscribers.

and a 3 year contract, so thats an extra 18,000 over 3 years.

Same thing for new subscribers, 3 years contract.

So is this device worth it for 18,000 over 3 years ? Can it be hacked and customized :) can it be upgraded. I wonder what OEM it is.

ok, I am in Plan 990 (Home Phone + 384 Kbps) + Call All Family (2 Sims), I was previously a subscriber of PLDT MyDSL Plan 999 and Residential Phone.

Now, here is my question, can I shift to Plan 1895 + Call All Family? thanks

I reserved mine 3 days ago. The PLDT Rep was kind enough to give me a courtesy call yesterday to confirm my reservation.

She mentiones that the unit will be available to those who reserves this month by January 2011.

    They have a Facebook Fanpage:

I reserved my unit thru their Facebook Fanpage.

There are also plans & details about it there.

    Hope this helps.

from ur 999 plan u just have to add 500 pesos every month…it’s like the unit is FREE because you just need to add 500 and just paying for the additional 500 mbps or ur plan 999 is 1 mbps as u add 500 it will become 1.5 mbps….
    it’s contract of 3 years..

  17. Sana naman improve nyo na rin ang customer service ng PLDT. We’re interested sana, but changed our minds because of our bad experiences with PLDT representatives.

  20. I do know that Filipinos invented this gadget.

Do you have any information regarding as to who is manufacturing this product?

    February 1, 2011 at 2:27 pm Reply
  21. Phlothario #

Manufacturer is Nuegent Tech. A local company.
I cancelled my subscription primarily bec only 2gb memory, low resolution and the fact that you should return the unit whenever you decide to terminate landline subscription.
