Pacquiao – Hatton Fight Broadcasted by Bloggers

While millions of Filipinos trooped to malls, theaters, restaurant bars, and government sponsored telecasts, others decided to just google to watch the recently concluded Pacquiao – Hatton match. Since I woke up pretty late this morning, I wasn’t able to go to any of the places that were showing it live. I just typed in “Watch Pacquiao Hatton Live” and I got hundreds of hits. I clicked one and I was led into a blog that actually embedded a video streaming service and cover it live application. It was a bit choppy and lagged a bit but I was able to watch the entire match until the last second when Pacquiao smashed Hatton’s face in. Other than the live broadcast, Youtube videos of both rounds were already uploaded a few minutes after the fight ended.

Here’s the Youtube video that’s now making the rounds among bloggers here in the Philippines and abroad:

PACQUIAO KNOCKS OUT HATTON IN THE SECOND ROUND

Suddenly the P900+ you pay for your DSL is worth every peso. Last I heard, the ticket to watch at the malls cost around P550. I’m sure that the media moguls are scratching their head when it comes to this problem. This will become more rampant in the future which means that the Pay-per-view business is really in danger. Will the executives adapt? Or will they be stubborn? Definitely an interesting issue to monitor.

I don’t really consider the pay-per-view business “in danger”. I mean, come on, it’s boxing! A fight can last just a few seconds or the entire 12 rounds.

It’s more of a business risk actually. Unless you can “buy” the boxer and tell him to “delay knocking your opponent down.”

Kudos to Pacman and his team! Great win over Hatton!
