New iPod Nano (Multi-touch) Review

I was finally able to get the new iPod Nano (Multi-touch) yesterday from a seller on PhilMUG. I was a bit hesitant at first because I didn’t know how much this would actually cost officially in the Philippines but I felt a bit better after I found out that I got it for less the how much Power Mac Center is currently selling it. The newest iPod Nano is definitely one of the best music players Apple has ever rolled out but it does have some kinks.

The idea of having an “iPod Wristwatch” caught on fire after Steve Jobs mentioned that one of the Apple board members actually wanted to clip it on a watch strap. A few days alter a company actually came out with a line of watch straps for the iPod Nano! This was actually one of the main reasons why I bought this (yeah I’m a sucker, haha). However I was really disappointed when I found out that the iPod Nano doesn’t support Bluetooth connections! This means that if you want to use it as a watch and an iPod there will be a dangling wire. Major major boo boo here Apple!

Moving on, the multi-touch feature is great! It’s easy to navigate and it’s actually fun flipping the screens on such a small device. It felt like my iPad got shrunk! Lol. Those with big fingers like me might have some trouble especially with the song selection process because of the small screen. However if you get used to it you’ll find that it’s a very cool experience.

You can also view pictures on the iPod Nano. This is fun but my main problem again is the small screen. I uploaded my wedding photos on the iPod and I could barely make out the faces of the people in the picture. You can tap the screen to zoom but it doesn’t really do any justice. I don’t see myself sharing photos on this device with my friends.

Overall I think I’ll have fun with this device. I’m still trying to find out where to buy a watch strap but I’ll probably have to add something to make sure that the iPod won’t get lost or stolen while I’m walking since the only thing that keeps it on the strap would be the clip.

  1. Hey Carlo!

Great review of the new iPod Nano. When Steve Jobs announced this new Nano, I was excited to look and touch it and see if it can replace my 4th Gen Nano. The whole iWatch/ Nano Watch seems exciting (perhaps attach a platinum chain and make it into a time piece).

However, when I saw it, touched it, played around with it… I was a bit disappointed. I could live without the 5th Gen video camera but when Apple took out the video playback (I watch podcasts and videos on my Nano0, I was heartbroken. I can’t believe Apple took out around 50% of the Nano’s features and kept it at $149 (8 gb). I wonder how much you got it and how much it is retailing in Manila.

The touch interface is great as expected from Apple. However, if you plan to jog or workout with this, I think people would find it hard to navigate. Perhaps, we’ll get used to it.

Anyway, not to be all negative, I still think the Nano is a great iPod music player and is compact enough to be worn as part of your clothing accessories. I am looking forward for the new cases and accessories manufacturers and retailers would be selling in the near future.

    • Arni, first let me say that I love your blog! Good luck on your weight loss journey. :)

Next, I got the iPad for a little over P7,000 from a seller on PhilMUG. The local retail price right now at PowerMac Center for the 8GB model is at P7,990.

I agree with you with the video and the camera but it looks like they’re positioning the iPod Touch for those services and they want to relegate the Nano to just being a “superb” music player.

Thanks for the comment and I hope to see you more here at NMP!
