Multiply.com is on the right track

Multiply launches an online campaign to brand themselves as THE online shopping site in the PH

Multiply.com has transformed itself from an ailing social network about to be killed by Facebook into a venerable e-commerce powerhouse in the Philippines. They now have over 100,000 merchants and e-commerce related visits to the site have increased by 30% compared to May earlier this year.

Jack Madrid, Multiply Country Manager (formerly from Yahoo), is steering the company in the right direction. They recently implemented changes that makes selling online easier on Multiply and to compliment that they launched an aggressive on-ground and online marketing campaign to let people know about their “transformation”.

Shopping Parties?

Earlier this year they had a Multiply Shopping Party where merchants and shoppers came together in one night of frivolous spending (lol). Here’s a video of Jack’s keynote during that evening taken by Adodbo Magazine.

Real life events form stronger communities. Hopefully they continue doing this in 2012 even if it’s on a smaller scale. They just have to be consistent.

Online Campaign

They also just started an online campaign using Google Ads. They’re now appearing on almost all major sites visited here in the Philippines. Heck they even appear on some of my blogs, lol! Anyway, here are a few screenshots of their ads.

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how Multiply will evolve, especially in 2012. I think next year will be a key year for them and we’ll see in the next 12 months if they can completely transform the site into “the e-bay” or “the Amazon” of the Philippines.

    • It’s a good thing they decided to follow the site users though. If they didn’t they’d probably be dead already.

Unfortunately, when Multiply decided to allow users to sell, most users have gone to Facebook. What use is it for sellers when their prospective buyers no longer visit Multiply?

As they say, you can’t fish where there’s no fish. You can’t shop on Multiply without a Multiple account. Who still knows their Multiply password? Multiply is as dead as Friendster and no amount of gimmick can turn it around.

I’m not sure if they are in the right direction. As far as consumers/buyers are concerned, Multiply is not and will never be top of mind.

FB doesn’t actually have the automated payment system. Thus, buyer protection program. Multiply is about shopping with convenience. I guess you haven’t tried huh? It’s not “Too Late”! Try it once, let’s see if you won’t get hooked!
