Message from a Go Negosyo Youth Summit Participant

Last Friday I was invited by Go Negosyo to talk about Online and Viral Marketing for their Youth Summit event held at the SMX Convention Center. Initially I worked on delivering a presentation for SME’s and business owners. I worked on a deck called “No BS Filipino Digital Marketing” for several days. However on the morning of the event I realized that my audience wouldn’t be able to relate too well with my presentation. In my current presentation I’d be talking about e-mail marketing, mobile marketing, digital marketing pitfalls, and a lot of technical concepts. With barely an hour or two left before my presentation I decided to trash the one I had and make a completely new one called “Digital Marketing for the Filipino Youth“. It was definitely one of the better decisions I’ve made in a long while.

Instead of talking about how to do digital marketing, I decided to focus on challenging the audience to start doing their own stuff online. I made it very simple, direct-to-the-point, and very applicable for everyone. My goal was that I wanted people to leave my talk with knowledge that they can bring home and immediately use. I packed the deck with a lot of youth-inspired Filipino online business case studies and broke down the concepts into basic terms so that it would be very easy to understand. More than anything though I made sure that my delivery would be very emotional so that I’d be able to really connect with the participants

I was more psyched up than usual for this talk and I believe I gave it well. I saw in the eyes of my audience that I awakened something in them and this was proven later on after I finished the talk. I’ve been receiving e-mails, Facebook messages, and texts about the presentation. Here’s one of the messages I got from Facebook:

Hi! Thanks for the empowering topic yesterday, im really looking for an opportunity to get some work for an additional income but dont know where to start, so i went to a couple of seminars on how to start a business, then i stumbled upon the event yesterday, it’s good i still got some leaves left to use from the office so i attended, if you did’nt mumbled on the stage that you were the speaker i would’nt have known it, but man, it really awakened my senses, iv’e been to previous GoNegosyo seminars recently, held at the megamall, but yours is the one that really got me, frankly im loss and dont know where to start, i’ve been learning and studying the evolving world of marketing in today’s web 2.0 age and thanks to you i just recently discovered i wasn’t marketing myself.

I belong in advertising, i finalize artworks in the print media but i recently notice the changing and evolving world of the internet, then i got curious about the psychology involved in marketing, your presentation was unique cause its main message is “challenge” and “starting”, so thanks for the awakening message i’m beginning to set up my plans to market my digital artistry capabillities and other services, by the way if its ok to you, can you email
me a copy of your ppt presentation yesterday, i want to share your words to my brother who is graduating from AMA studying computer science with distinctions, he is a scholar there by the way. thanks and more power to your business too.

Thank you, Go Negosyo, for giving me the opportunity to share with everyone my passion for Digital Marketing. And to all those who attended, I hope that you learned something from what I had to say and that I was able to inspire you to take action.

‘Till the next speaking engagement, cheers!

(Author’s Note: I’ll post a photo essay once I get pictures from the official photographer of the event)
