iPad Otterbox Defender Case Review

The iPad Otterbox Defender is definitely one of the most secure and protective cases ever made for Apple’s tablet. I have to agree with ZDNET that the Otterbox Defender feels like putting the iPad in Batman’s suit. Why do I say this? Well, the Otterbox Defender is three layers of protection including a polycarbonate cover which you can snap on in front of your device to fully cover the iPad’s touch screen! There’s also a silicon exterior that helps with the grip and absorbs shock if ever you accidentally drop the iPad. Here are some photos:

Assembling took some effort but it wasn’t that hard. First you have to put the iPad inside the case, wrap the Silicone around it, and finally snap on the polycarbonate back/front cover.

Feels heavier. According to what I’ve read, the iPad with the Otterbox Defender will weigh a little less than 3 lbs, which is the usual weight for netbooks!

The polycarbonate cover also acts a stand if you wanna watch movies, read ebooks, or look at photos.

The Otterbox Defender is for people who want to give their iPad the best protection available. We all know that the iPad is a fragile device. In the hands of kids, the iPad’s fate is sealed and it will get broken.

In terms of form and style, Otterbox made sure that while it may look a little bulky, it’s still fashionably cool-looking. Like what was said earlier, it really looks and feels like Batman’s suit!

I guess the biggest con to this is the weight. The iPad feels heavy with the Defender on, especially if you have the Polycarbonate case snapped on at the back. However I feel like this is the best case for me since I’m a bit of a klutz. The iPad did cost me a lot of cash and I don’t mind shelling a few thousand pesos out more to make sure it’s kept safe.

Game Stop is selling this for P4,900. They have a branch at V-MALL, 3rd floor just a few shops after Filbar’s.

  1. I have a rubberized Speck case with ridges all around it for my ipad and it is great for grip. But that added weight to it. Takot talaga akong mahulog ko ang ipad so am really looking to protect it. This one looks great nga for protection, but the big ???? is really its added weight. 3 pounds? Hirap buhatin yan with one hand, ah! Carlo, does it come with a pullout stand at the back already? And how is your vision and touch sensitivity of screen with polycarbonate cover on?

    • Hi Jane!

First, we really have to meet up. Your iPod is gathering dust in my room, lol. I’ll text you my schedule for this week and hopefully we can see each other.

Next, it’s definitely a bit heavy. It will weigh around 2.2-2.3 lbs (iPad and the case) so it’s almost like lugging around a Macbook Air (which isn’t too bad).

The polycarbonate cover is the same device with the stand (black pull-out thing). When you attach it to the front to cover the touch screen it acts like a defensive solid mask. If you want to use the iPad, you snap it out and either use it as a stand or snap it at the back of the iPad then you can use the iPad the way you usually do.

Personally I feel that this is the best cases I’ve ever bought (and I’ve bought a lot). Really happy with it! :)

[...] If you don’t have any of the two keyboards make sure to buy a case that will prop-up the iPad for typing. The best case for this is the original Apple iPad Folio but it doesn’t give good protection for the device. I strongly recommend that you guys invest in the Wireless Keyboard and get a solid cover to keep the iPad safe from dents and scratches. My personal favorite is the OtterBox Defender Series. [...]
