iPad App Review: iMindMap

Mind Mapping is one of the best ways to organize one’s thoughts. I’ve been using this method ever since I attended a seminar about it way back in 2004 and this has been the foundation of a lot of my blogs and projects. Initially I was using the iMindMap app for the iPod Touch but my main problem with it was that it was so hard to use with the limited display screen of the iPod Touch. That’s why I was really excited to try it out with the iPad. There’s no official iMindMap app yet out for the iPad and what I’m actually using is the iPod Touch version on my iPad but it’s a totally different experience. A quick review of this app after the break.

Using this app is very easy. Just click the “+” on the menu to create a new mind map. You’ll then be prompted to put the title of the mind map and you’ll also get to select the look of the starting cloud or thought bubble. After picking your starting point the main mind mapping interface will be shown.

Mind mapping using your hands on the iPad is a phenomenal and mind-blowing exercise! I dare say that I enjoy the experience on the iPad much more than doing it on the Macbook. It just feels so… “high tech”, hahaha! It’s also very easy to type-in the text with the touchscreen keyboard of the iPad compared to the cramped interface on the iPod Touch.

You can save all of your mind maps but in order to sync it with your Macbook you’ll have to buy the desktop/laptop version of the software which is a bit pricey. The app itself is free though so if you just want to do Mind Mapping on the go, this app is definitely for you.

By the way, I just heard that the official iPad version for this app is coming soon. I definitely wouldn’t mind paying for it since this is an app that I use a lot.
