Inquirer.Net, the most visited news website in the Philippines isn’t necessarily the fastest when it comes to breaking news. When Typhoon Basyang hit the Philippines last night (specifically Metro Manila), all major news sites were still frequently updating their streams. However Inquirer.Net eventually stopped at 12:01AM, roughly 13-14 hours already as of this writing. On the other hand the websites ABS-CBN news and GMA news were both updated constantly throughout the day. In fact, they already have multimedia content uploaded like videos and pictures. Other dailies like the Philippine Star and the Manila Bulletin were also updated regularly throughout the day. Both also had amazing photo contents.

To be fair though, Inquirer has been very active giving updates on Twitter, even re-tweeting the tweets of reporters from other media outlets. They’re even assisting other Pinoys by giving out contact numbers of government agencies like fire stations, etc. Good job to whoever is handling their social media. Their web administrator needs to pick up the pace though.
Lastly, I hope everyone is safe. I heard that the storm should be out of the Philippines but there are more coming this month and in August. Let’s get ready for the rainy season by stocking up on candles, fans, and batteries. Also don’t forget to always keep your gadgets charged.
