How to download iPad Apps from the Philippines

(Note from Carlo: This is a guest blogger entry)

Apple’s iPad is indeed a “magical” device, it’s so magical that people aren’t even willing to wait for the international release to grab one specially with all the unexpected delays. Some local shops are even taking advantage of the situation by selling it at a premium price, and by premium I really mean an arm or a leg. So now let’s say you found a way to import an iPad over to our shores, maybe through a relative coming home from the US or by selling your soul to that gadget vendor over at Greenhills either way your the envy of the town. Then you try to get yourself some apps for that shiny new iPad, that’s when you realize you’re still in the Philippines and can’t get iPad apps.

Just in case you haven’t figured it out yet, right now the iPad is only available in the US therefore any other iTunes Store outside the US can’t have any iPad apps available for download. So what do you do? You get a US iTunes account that’s what you do. It’s easy as hell, just follow these simple steps:

Open iTunes and make sure you’re on the US Store by checking on the flag on the lower right side. If you see any other flag there click on it and change it to the US. Go ahead and download a FREE iPad application. Then iTunes will ask you to login to your iTunes account. Just click on “Create New Account”.

Fill out the form and continue.

Select “NONE” as your payment method and put in a US address. I suggest you use one of Google’s Corporate Addresses just for fun.

Verify the email and login to your new US iTunes Store Account and start downloading those free apps. In case you want to go ahead and buy iPad apps just go ahead and put in your credit card by updating your account. Now your ready to pimp that iPad with over 1,000 apps, assuming your iPad has the capacity. I suggest you use the US account rather than something outside the US since a lot of the apps and media are only available in the US store. If you’re having any trouble with getting an account please do let us know in the comments.

The Philippines iTunes store has iPad apps! They won’t show up unless you search for them though. Just type ‘iPad’ on the iTunes store search bar and you’ll see all available iPad apps here. But not all apps are available here, though… :)

thanks for the tip… but since not everything is available on the local iTunes store I’d still use the US account since everything is available there…

    Another heads-up…

The Philippine app store is now accessible via your iPad. And I think it now has practically all available iPad apps. :)

There are apps but the thing is no iTune store meaning you can’t download the iBooks luckily I’m a mag guy hehe.. But seriously it’s upsetting that you can’t buy HD movies and other stuff that a us iTunes account offers… Well I guess we all have to wait for Apple to release it hear in the Philippines
