How Fast is Fiber Optics Broadband in the Philippines?

I dropped by the house of one of my ninongs who lives in Forbes and I was pleasantly surprised with his answer when I asked if he had WiFi. He had fiber optics broadband in his house! I quickly opened my laptop and did a speedtest to check out how fast the connection really is. I was stunned to see the results… because yes it’s really fast! Here’s a picture of the test:

53.83mbps for download speed and 41.25mbps for upload. Whoa. That’s like 52x faster than what I have at home, haha! Booyah! Lol. He was complaining though that the connection was a bit intermittent. Every now and then it goes down so yeah it I would totally be annoyed and frustrated if that happened to me (especially with how much you pay for that kind of service here in the Philippines).

    Hmmm…. It’s fast alright. If the connection wasn’t intermittent, I bet it would make workload a lot easier, not to mention fast buffering of videos. I wonder how many decades before ISPs go for fiber optics? But before that, how about those ISPs do something about the quality of their service first.

      Having this connection will definitely make the Mac App Store easier to use. One game there (Lego Harry Potter) is a 6GB download! Gosh.

    Some areas have faster connections than others, forbes is one of those locations that has ultra fast connection.

    Is the fast speed a result of your ninong living in Forbes or is it the the fibre optics in the house? What service is he using?

    Guys let me clarify – this isn’t a normal DSL line. It’s a premium service that my Ninong is paying for.
