A lot of brands are getting into Facebook these days and spending hundreds of thousands of pesos (if not millions) on Facebook Advertising to pump up their number of “Likes”. One company though stood out. Group buying website Metro Deal has amassed over 500,000 “Likes” on their page. Did they spend millions upon millions in Facebook advertising? Did they do a witty promo? Did they use traditional advertising methods?
Well, it’s either they bought an existing page or they fished for the likes by creating a page that would be likeable and viral and then just slip in their brand later on. I don’t know what really happened but it’s amazing nonetheless. The name of their Facebook Page is “Buti Pa Ang Biglaang Lakad Natutuloy; Ang Planado Hindi”. Here’s a screenshot:
As of this writing they’ve gotten 551,718 “Likes”. Interesting! Would love to find out what really happened.

Wow. I didn’t even know that was their page. I thought it was one of those statement pages. I didn’t even bother to check the homepage when my cousin invited me to like the page (which I did not do even though I 100% agreed with the statement – too many pages!). I guess people just like the statements and click it.
was that move ethical though? after luring followers you’ll unmask your true identity. but anyway, ethical or not, it worked for them.
I believe MetroDeal bought the page. The “history” of the page can be read in

Some guy was running it, even held contests for the profile picture design with P100 load as prize way back in March 2010.

The page got featured in Spot.ph too

I just don’t know if they already have lots of fans during that time, or the page got a fan boost because of the feature.
supposedly fan pages like that were supposed to have their posting priviledges removed since they dont represent real brands and to stop abuse like what metrodeal did by buying it
It looks like they just bought an “inane” fan page with a lot of fans just so they can claim the numbers. But I wonder if that worked for them – i.e., if the fans in the fan page are actually translating into real sales.
Yep, I think also that they bought that page. Uhmm, I wonder how much is the tag price for that.
My guess is that they bought it. Saw that page before it was branded by Metro Deals, the tone of the admin posts was different back then.
It seems like there’s a sub culture of FB page & group admins here who try to get as many likes or members as they can, for whatever reason-only they know. It’s like a pseudo popularity contest.
Most of them are really inane, sometimes even bastos, pages & groups. There’s even a fan/group aggregator page called ‘certified pluggers’ where page & group admins beg each other to ‘like’ or join them and sell stuff.
On a positive note, though, these guys are community manager padawans in training. I just wonder if any of them realize they can make a career out of what they are doing…
I’m very curious to know how many inane pages are there in the Philippines..i’m sure this worked for Metro Deal..I’m very curious what’s the price tag for this page..
Don’t know what you guys are smoking, but their Fanpage is actually called MetroDeal Philippines, just checked it right now.
i was wondering how i “liked” that page. pulled out a switcheroo when i wasn’t looking. time to unlike i suppose.
how long will they send the voucher after payment?
The page was turned down. I wonder why.
I noticed that too! Now they are back to a few thousand fans.
