Groupon launches PH online ad campaign

Groupon recently just announced their entry to the Philippines and they’re already starting to ramp up registrations via an aggressive ad campaign through the Google Ad Network. The ads basically show insane deals (up to 70%) off and once you click you are directed to a landing page explaining what Groupon is about. A big space there is asking for your e-mail address so you can get notified of the latest deals. Here’s a screenshot of the ad which appeared on one of my blogs (Apple Manila):

What’s interesting to note though is that there are no deals yet. The ads say that you can get discounts but there are no live products yet that you can avail of. I don’t know if this is considered false advertising but they’re definitely going to get a lot of clicks with that kind of copy.

This is probably the best way Groupon can catch up and maybe even overtake local group deal sites like Cash Cash Pinoy, Buyanihan, and Awesome. They’ll need to flex their financial muscles to ramp up sign-ups via more advertising (something that the others aren’t doing aggressively).

Again, here’s me hoping that one of these group deal sites will focus on gadgets and tech products. They’ll definitely get cash from me if they come up with good deals. :)

I think what’s more interesting is that there’s a Groupon ad and a Twangoo ad on your screenshot above. At first I actually thought you were talking about Twangoo.. :)
