Friendster had a press briefing recently with the CEO of their parent company, MOL, discussing the future of the pioneer social networking site in the Philippines. Ganesh Kumar Bangah said that Friendster will evolve into a social gaming website which will have hundreds of online games. Users can purchase credits to buy items or play time for these games through Friendster/MOL prepaid cards which they will be rolling out nationwide. Bangah said that the changes would occur in the next three to six months and they’re calling it “Project Neutron”. Do you guys think this is the right direction for Friendster? It’s hard to say, but I’m guessing they need to do something–seems facebook has kind of pulled people away from all the other social networking sites.
Yup, and I think even in social gaming Friendster still has an uphill battle with Facebook. If they really want to become a social gaming site the entire interface, look, feel, and functions of the site should reflect that.
