In an article published on Asia Media Journal, Friendster Global Product Director Jeff Roberto revealed that the company will be launching a series of products that will totally differentiate Friendster from all other network sites operating in Asia. One of the first products is a virtual gift shop which already launched in Malaysia but will also be rolled out to other countries soon.
Friendster still the leading online network in the Philippines
In the same article, it was also revealed that Friendster is still the top social network in the Philippines, followed by Facebook. This came from ComScore, and independent research firm. Actually if you visit Facebook’s ad page, it shows there that there are around 5.4M registered FB Filipino users. For Friendster, they have around 14M monthly active Filipino users. One of the reasons why Friendster is still staying strong is how they’re slowly embracing localization marketing strategies, something which was also discussed in the article. In the interview, Roberto also says that there will be more on-ground events for Friendster in key markets.
The company will also host more on-ground events such as the recent Pinoy Friendster Day in the Philippines, a free event that included live performances by local bands, speed dating, style make-overs and a fireworks display, attracting more than 7,000 people.
Exciting time for Social Media.
