Friendster to delete photos, blogs, testimonials

On May 31, Friendster will wipe out all photos, blogs, shout-outs, and testimonials in everyone’s profiles. This is a radical move which hopes to put them on track to transforming from a generic Social Networking into a site that’s focused more on gaming and music for Asia. While a lot of bloggers and tech analysts say that this is Friendster saying goodbye and this is the “death of the pioneer SNS”, I think that this is the only thing they can do to actually survive and maybe even florish in the age of Facebook.

Scale of Facebook
Facebook will continue to dominate the scene primarily because of the resources that they have at their disposal. They have more engineers and IT folk compared to other companies which means they can deliver changes and updates faster than anyone. If Friendster were to hold it’s course of just being a site that holds old photos and testimonials then it will just die a slow death. It needs to offer something different and unique so that you’ll actually visit it again and again.

I worked for Friendster before and I sincerely wish the company all the best as well as all of the brilliant Filipinos who are employed there as well.

  1. Haven’t been in there for a while now. Then again, I was just forced to join Friendster before (much like how I ended up signing up for Facebook). It’s just that Facebook keeps coming up with really neat things to do…even if I detest their UI.

I can still remember saying “uy testi mo ko ah, testi rin kita” haha… Hope friendster could come back in SNS big time and develop something new rather than improving something other SNS already have.
