Friendster coming up with major changes soon
Nov 24
Friendster caused a social revolution when they first broke into the mainstream sometime in 2003-2004. Everyone started asking for Testimonials and e-mail addresses. I can still fondly recall badgering my college block mates to send me Testimonials and to add me on Friendster, haha. My fiancee and I even had a competition on who would have to most number of friends (she won by the way). Anyway, through the years though it looked like Friendster lost their way, especially when the product started to stop innovating the the brand seemed like it lost focus. However, things are going to change really soon. This article is taken from the official Friendster blog:
A new and improved Friendster.com is coming very soon. We’ve taken your thoughts and ideas into account when designing the new site. Over the next few weeks, you’ll start to see big changes on Friendster.
We have talked to hundreds of you across the region about your lives, your needs, your wants and your challenges and this is what you told us:
• You want to be with your friends: you want to be where your friends are, and not where everyone else is, you’re here to socialize with your friends, and not necessarily with your parents, teachers, and co-workers
• You want to be YOU: uniformity is boring. Style is cool. Creating your own style is cooler- and that’s what Friendster is all about- YOU!
• You’re different in different places: if you’re with your parents, teachers or co-workers, you behave. If you’re with friends, you have fun!
• You want to be entertained: to keep your attention, the site and experience needs to be fresh, with constant new ways to have fun
• You want to explore: you want to meet new people with similar interests and discover content important to you
• You want it to be simple: life can be complex, socializing your friends shouldn’t be. We’ve adapted the site and experience to meet your needs, and to keep it simple and fun.Friendster is designed to be the best site for youth in Asia. We don’t need to be the biggest web site, the site that everyone in the world uses, we want to be the place you come to have fun. Everything we do should make you smile- Friendster should be where you come to be yourself and with your friends.
That said, we’ll be launching the following soon:
• A Fun and Simple Site – a site that makes it more fun to connect and communicate with friends
• Easier Uploading and Sharing – faster photo uploading, easier ways to find both current and new friends and their stuff
• Enhanced Self Expression and Customization –ways to express yourself and personalize your Friendster profile and site experience
• Entertaining Content – ways to entertain you and your friends- like gifts, games and musicWe’ve been working hard to create a site built around your needs and now we think we’re ready to begin sharing the results…so, get ready for the all-new Friendster!
This is only the beginning. We have many more new and exciting product features in the works- so stay tuned for even more in 2010.
Tomorrow we’ll give you a closer look at What’s New…and launching in just a matter of days!
I’m really excited to share with everyone what we’ve all been doing for Friendster so far.

im excited on the big change!
It’s interesting to notice that a Marketing Executive of Friendster is using Facebook as the official social networking for his blog. Sure does not bode well for the company.
Hi Edgar! You’ll understand why when the new site launches soon.
It’s kinda hard to explain right now but I’ll delve deeper into it after the relaunch. Cheers!
