Foursquare has 45,000 users in the Philippines?

I got this tip via Tonyo Cruz‘s Twitter. According to SocialPR, the Philippines has 45,000 users of the mobile check-in service Foursquare. If this information is correct then that’s a considerably low number considering we have over 20,000,000 Facebook users. The primary reason probably is that the market hasn’t adopted the desired behavior of letting every know where you are and the proliferation of smartphones isn’t really at an all time high yet.

If you don’t know what Foursquare is check this video out. It’s a basic explanation of what the service is all about:

There’s a good chance that the population of Filipinos in Foursquare will explode by next year though since Globe and Smart are both rolling out low cost smartphones (Android 2.2 Froyo enabled).
