Filipinos apologize to Hong Kong via Facebook Page

As of this writing, there’s a Facebook Page entitled “Hongkong, Our apology for what happened” which has 15,499 likes. The wall is already filled up with mixed apologies from Filipinos in Tagalog and English. There are several HK nationals who are also commenting and replying to some of the posts. The page description under the profile picture has this caption:

We’re very sorry hongkong. :( To the chinese people, and to all nation, again we’re sorry for what happened. No one wants this to happen let’s just pray for the victims souls for them to have peace.

I won’t be surprised if the number of “likes” picks up later tonight when more people get to log-on Facebook and see the page being shared by their friends and peers online. Sad as this may sound, I also won’t be surprised if a fan page for the hostage taker, dismissed policeman Mendoza, will also surface and get a significant amount of likes.

We don’t only say “sorry” when we regret things we’ve personally done. “Sorry” can also mean, “I regret that this happened,” or “I feel sorrow that this happened.” That’s why we sometimes say “I’m sorry for your loss.”

And apologies don’t have to be apologies for one’s personal faults. We can apologize as a people.

we must NOT apologize. this things happen everyday, everywhere. apologizing will only belittle us more to the world.

I’m not trying to be a smart ass but we should respect the feelings of people who lost their loved ones. These innocents have nothing to do with this isolated case of an Ex-Cop. Though we’re not directly involved, as what you are trying to imply, as a true human being there’s a feeling of guilt because of the failure of authorities to defuse the situation which ends in bloodbath. And this what we feel sorry all about.

our deepest condolences and prayers to all hongkong nationals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think kahit sa ibang bansa mangyari to same thing meron at meron pa ring casualties.although dapat lang managot ang dapat managot sa maling taktika ng paghawak sa hostage taker. di kasi naisip gamitan ng psychology approach.
