Filipino Internet Users are Big Spenders

I came across this very interesting article on Inquirer.Net. According to this news item, a study made by global market research firm Synovate, heavy internet users are actually big spenders. In fact, the study goes on to explain that these users are most likely to purchase premimum gadgets, cars, and even invest in financial instruments. So what does this all mean? Let me share some insights after the break.

Impact no the Automobile and Insurance Industries
It’s a no-brainer why internet users are pre-disposed to buy gadgets. What’s interesting is the cars and the financial instruments aspect. Now that we have this study out, it should be easier for product managers, agencies, and media buyers of these two industries to convince decision makers about investing on online marketing. For cars, Hyundai, Honda, and Mazda have been spending on online ad campaigns. Hyundai even went as far as running a blog campaign through the Nuffnang Network. Other car brands mostly just do banner ads on Inquirer.net. They should get a little more creative now that there is an official study declaring that they have a good chance of getting customers through the internet.

Makes you want to put up a site that has the 30+ y/o as your target audience eh? You’d definitely get a lot of advertising revenue from blogs that have content that will cater to that market segment.

Talking about 30+ target audience. I’m an Agency Director and Lifeplanner with Sony Life Philippines, a wholly owned Life Insurance company subsidiary of Sony Corporation Japan. And I would really want to reach out to the 30s to 40s young professionals.

Sony Life’s vision is to drastically change the Philippine Life Insurance industry. To us, Life Insurance is not an Investment, where returns or ROI are measured. But rather, full protection of an Individual’s earning potential to the family; and preservation of his hard earned assets or Estate in case the inevitable happens unexpectedly. The Philippines is still ranks very low in terms of Individual Insurance coverage because of a lot of misconceptions. Just an example, people think Insurance is Pre-Need and vice versa. Which is absolutely wrong / different.

We want to make people in their 30s to 40s, married, with families (especially those with young kids) realize the value of full needs protection. Sony Life shows people the essence and value of protection, while showing them a very logical way of assessing how much protection they actually need.

Just imagine, a 35 year old Family man, main breadwinner, is insured for say P1Million. And he is earning P1 Million a year. In case of a sudden death, the family receives the benefit. How long and how far will the P1 Million go? 1 year, that’s the income he generates annually. 2 years maybe at most. Earning P1 Million a year, before he reaches his retirement age of 60, he would be generating P25 Million at least for his family over that 25 year period, wouldn’t he? That’s what his family stands to lose if death or disability strikes. And for Sony Life, that’s what we aim to protect, at a premium that shouldn’t go beyond 10% of his annual income. Doesn’t that make sense? And we want to show that to young professionals, especially those who are earning good income now.

I would appreciate knowing how we can share this concept to a lot more young urban professionals who are family men. I am looking at how to utilize the power of the Internet to share this important vision of Sony Life.

Mr. Carlo Ople, I would like to be given the opportunity to meet you and explain the Sony Life way. You may think this is just the same as all other Insurance companies. But I can assure you, knowing Sony, they will not go into a business without seeing how they can provide added VALUE to their customers. It is the LIFEPLANNER VALUE here that we proudly would like to show to the public.

You may also reach me at 819-6021; or through my mobile 0917-8999455. Thank you very much. And I look forward to the day when the Life Insurance industry is looked at to provide total peace of mind and Financial Security for the family, rather than an investment product.
