By now you’ve probably heard of how the Presidential Communications Group created a new Facebook Page for President Aquino and how the 2.2M Facebook Page for him made by a volunteer was deleted by Facebook. To read the full story on this, click this link to go to my political commentary blog. What’s interesting though is how the new page of President Aquino suddenly shot up to 1.5M fans in just 2 days (an amazing feat for anyone who didn’t advertise of Facebook).
According to All Facebook, here are the stats of the page of the President:
On November 8 the total number of likes was at 103,718. The following day it reached 638,077. The day after it catapulted to 1,595,291. All this happened without any promotion or Facebook advertising. The historical increase also doesn’t justify the growth. This can only mean one thing.
President Aquino’s Communication Team requested Facebook to “transfer” the “likes” of the defunct page to the new official page. I can’t think of any other organization which would have the clout to force a multi-billion company to accommodate such a request.
