Doubling CTR for Google Adsense

Here’s a quick and effective tip for bloggers and website administrators out there who use Google Adsense. I recently doubled the click through rate (CTR) of my anime & gaming blog, Waukster Online, just by changing the ad units and their placements. This was suggested by my good friend and fellow blogger, Francis. Basically I got three link ad units side by side just under the title of the post and above the actual body content. Here’s a screenshot:

The CTR increased by around 40% the first day and now it’s consistently double (sometimes triple) compared to the CTR I got before I made the change. I’ll play around some more with the Adsense units in the site and see what else I can do to increase CTR and over-all earnings.

Cheers!

What could be the reason? What was it before?

Bad thing about link ad units is that you dont earn when a visitor clicks on the unit but only after they click on the ads displayed on the page. In short you earn after two clicks not like a text ad unit you get paid after the first click.

One thing to increase your overall earnings though is to add affiliate links. Good thing about this is that instead of earning from adsense (ex.1USD per click)you earn more by cutting adsense as middle man and earning direct from the offer around (2-3usd)

  4. Did this convert to higher earnings? In my experience, Link Units definitely increase my CTR, but they never increased my earnings. In the end, I removed all my Link Units and replaced them with Text Ads.
