Day 3-4 with the iPad: Fun Apps & eBook Experience

I’ve been using the iPad for several days now and I can honestly say that it’s one of the most innovative, effective, and inspirational gadgets I’ve ever owned. This “thing” has literally changed how I consume media and has literally doubled my productivity as a consultant. Ever since I bought it and started installing apps my Macbook Air has been staying at home more often. For this article though I’ll be zeroing in on two main things: entertaining iPad apps and reading eBooks.

Entertainment

The iPad offers so many apps! There are real time strategy games like Red Alert and there are also casual light games like Tap Tap Radiation and Scrabble. Of course there’s always the HD version of Plants vs Zombies too! There are even nonsense but cool apps like Big Words (check out thumbnail photo of Panda) and the various photo editing apps that allow you to even make comic strips. There are also cross platform apps which let’s your Mac interact with your iPad and sometimes even the iPhone as well.

The iPad is also a great way to watch videos but it can be awkward as a music player because it is kinda big. I can’t imagine walking around a lot or jogging with this thing in my hand. I don’t think that there will be an accessory in the future which will allow you to out your ipad on your arm or bicep, lol,

Education

One of the main reasons why I love the iPad is because of the eBooks. Note that I said “eBooks” and not “iBooks”. The problem for Filipinos with iBooks right now is that you need a US credit card to be able to buy from Apple. Also the current selection of books is limited. They don’t even have Patrick Lencioni titles yet. Instead of iBooks, I’m getting my eBooks from the newly approved Amazon Kindle app for the iPad which allows me to use my Philippine credit card to purchase eBooks. Note that eBooks generally cost less than buying actual printed titles from Fully Booked or Power Books.

Here are some screenshots of the Amazon Kindle iPad app in action:

Let’s you highlight and make notes! You can also bookmark pages.

You can go back to the notes anytime!

Did I just hear the bookworms scream “EPIC WIN”? Oh yeah, the Amazon Kindle store has more than 600,000 eBooks available. You’ll never run out of stuff to read. Just make sure to check your credit card so that you won’t go over your limit, hahaha :P

I am obviously enjoying and loving the iPad experience. It looks like I won’t be regretting owning one after all!
