Day 2 with the iPad: eBooks & Red Alert

iPad Command and Conquer: Red Alert was one of the first apps that I bought. It set me back around $12.99 (est. 600 pesos) but it’s actually worth it. I never imagined that I’d be able to play good quality Real Time Strategy games on a tablet computer. I seriously have to give it up for Apple and Electronic Arts for coming up with this. Here’s a short video of the game play so you have a better idea of what I’m talking about.

Other than playing Red Alert, I also spent a lot of time reading eBooks on the iPad. Contrary to what people initially said, it doesn’t really tax your eyes too much. I went through half of Seth Godin’s Linchpin this afternoon and my eyes still feel normal (lol). One function that I loved with the eBooks is that you can highlight and insert notes in any of the paragraphs. It makes reading much more “educational” because you get to retain the insights that strike you the most. I’ll be buying a few more eBooks using the Kindle app tomorrow. :)

I also bought a stand for the iPad. I got this for only $10 (500 pesos) from a contact in PHILMUG. It looks nice and it does the job of propping up the iPad. Here’s a picture of the iPad on my desk:

Still no regrets with the iPad! I also spent a few hours in Bizu at Promenade this evening just browsing the web while having coffee and cake. I’m planning on buying the iWork apps in the next few days, particularly Pages and Keynote. However I heard that both aren’t compatible with my iWork 2008. It looks like I’ll be flushing down 4,500 pesos down the drain just for the upgrade. Argh.
