[Updated] Cebu Pacific Dancing Flight Attendants Video Gets 3.1M Views

When Cebu Pacific executives made the decision to have their flight attendants dance during the security briefing they probably didn’t think that several top global websites would pick up the story and give them unprecedented media mileage. As of this writing, Yahoo, Telegraph, Huffington Post, CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, and TV Gawker (Gizmodo Network) have featured the video giving it a monumental view count of 1.8M 3.1M! The guy who proposed this to management will probably get a promotion or a bonus.

[Update] To add to the online exposure, Cebu Pacific just got prime media mileage from major local television networks. Their story was picked up and featured on ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol (October 3, 2010). Someone also told me that this story was tweeted by Ryan Seacrest.

Makes you wonder how if the lead attendant in the video will get a break in show business. LOL. :P

good viral marketing but safety is a concern. this was done in cruising altitude in a flight to Butuan. I took a flight to Cebu via Cebu Pacific months ago. I was using my phone when an FA told me to turn it off. I said my phone was in flight mode. Still, she asked me to turn it off citing some risks.

So, in the interest of viral marketing, safety is now disregarded as passengers were allowd to use their phones to take pictures, especially a video.

I agree, safety should be the main concern regardless of the situation.

But then again I remember watching Myth Busters debunk the whole cellphone during flight thing. So I guess it’s a case of better safe then sorry for the airlines.

The power of facebook teamed with the power of youtube. I guess a lot of brands have tried creating a buzz like this, but Cebu pacific’s the one that got to the limelight. Perfect timing I guess. That’s a major factor too.

  3. My thought here is SAFETY first. Did the dancing detract from the main message that had to be conveyed, i.e., how to put your seatbelt, face mask on properly? If passengers are too distracted watching the dance & NOT listening to the instructions, I’d rather have the same, lame piped-in voice only.

Hey, did you read about the news about Cebu Pacific getting in trouble because of the viral video? Looks like the Flight Attendants and Stewards Association of the Philippines (FASAP)is not so giddy as those 6M viewers who were amused with the video.

Cebu Pacific went overboard I guess. Some say they are just trying to mask up the bad publicity they got because of the kidney issue. Hmnn..

    • Maybe it’s a mix of the kidney issue combined with their IPO preparations. Regardless of their reason they got global attention for this effort.
