Adobo Magazine Design Awards

Adobo Magazine just announced that they’re accepting entries for the Adobo Magazine Design Awards! It’s nice that digital is represented in one major category and in one special award. The major category being WEBSITES and the special award for Best Use of Social Media or Viral Marketing.

For work to be eligible they need to have been commercially released anytime from January 1, 2011 to January 31, 2012.

Other speakers include Jack Madrid, Country Manager of Multiply.com and Founding President of the E-commerce Merchants Trade Association of the Philippines, who will talk about the state of E-commerce in the Philippines, and MRM Worldwide Managing Director Donald Lim will also share the State of Digital Marketing in the Philippines.

“In the first two summits we’ve held much has been said on how trust is an issue that needs to be addressed. After those events, we have seen how SureSeal partnered with Sulit (one was speaker and the other a participant then). Early this year, Xend also launched their own badge that can help in determining a seller’s track record for couriering items,” shares Janette Toral, DigitalFilipino Club Founder, in an e-mail interview with New Media PH.

“It is my hope that this coming event will help us come up with more concrete ideas that can be used in our respective businesses,” she adds.

The basement of Power Plant was converted into a concert hall!

Here’s what Smart offered:

• Free food from Burgoo, Cibo, and Sumo Sam
• Free arcade at the Power Station
• Free screenings of Mission Impossible (w free popcorn and iced tea)
• Free coffee from Starbucks and CBTL. You pick whatever you want to drink.
• Free concert from Lupe Fiasco (which was just wild!)
• Free drinks and food during the concert courtesy of Hizon’s Catering
• They raffled tons of stuff away like MacBooks, iPads, iPods, and a Subaru car worth around Php2.5M.

What made me feel ridiculously VIPsh was when we were already going out of the mall. Smart even paid for the parking (WHAAAT).

When the clock struck 12 they started handing out the iPhone 4S to those who reserved their units. Saw tons of celebrities who were there to pick up their new phones. Also saw a lot of familiar faces from work. Here are a few pictures I was able to take during the event:

SMART also opened a store at the top floor. This is where they gave out the iPhone 4S. First 10 people got their phones from Smart executives and they got extra stuff too.

The Philippine Blog Awards 2011!

The Philippine Blog Awards 2011 was held last week at the Carlos P. Romulo auditorium in RCBC Building, Makati City. I’ve always made in a point to support this activity (even when I was still with Level Up) because I believe that this event is helpful for the Filipino blogging community. Hopefully I’ll still be able to support it in whatever way I can moving forward. Anyway, allow me to share some photos of the event. FYI TV5 came in as a sponsor.

TV5's activation during the event? Photo booth! Everyone loves pictures. Lol. It was a huge success.

I wasn’t able to stay and finish it due to a Christmas party that I had to attend however I did find some stuff missing. I don’t know if I just wasn’t there anymore but there wasn’t a Keynote talk unlike the last 2 years. I loved MLQ3′s talk at the PBA 2010. Also I think the event could have used more hype especially leading up to the big day. Over-all though it was a nice event and I look forward to PBA 2012!

MVP’s speech at the Ad Congress

And here are the five gems that I picked up.

1. Switching to the Cloud. “Go and SIM no more.”
This technological advancement is something that I definitely look forward to. If we switch to the cloud then we can really say goodbye to SIM cards, text messaging fees, and even roaming charges (well if you have internet via WiFi or ethernet). Communication will be done over the internet on our mobile phones: messaging, calls, and media sharing.

We’re actually seeing the initial baby steps on this with the SMART Netphone.

2.Pay for online content via Meralco or Maynilad
One of the biggest problems with e-commerce in the Philippines is the low credit card penetration. However this can change if there are more payment methods available. MVP mentioned that “it pays to be more than a TV network” and he’s definitely correct. The different delivery and fulfillment networks at his disposal (tollways, offices, homes, hospital beds, etc) can make a huge difference in the way content can be accessed, distributed, and enjoyed.

3. “Content to follow the user on demand, like e-mail. Primetime is out, anytime is in.”
While most people watching his speech were trying to absorb what the “bombs” he was dropping, I’m sure a lot of people in TV5 and in different MVP companies were thinking that his speech can also be considered “marching orders”. That’s what I felt anyway, haha! Especially with the two sentences above.

4. Pay for Performance in Traditional Media
I just found it funny that digital publishers want to get away from the whole “cost-per-click” philosophy while traditional practitioners want to get into it, hehe. Note that there’s nothing wrong with this idea though and I think it’s only a matter of time before we really do move towards this kind of advertising especially with the stiff competition.

5. Tone of Humility
What I liked the most about MVP’s speech was that he decided to take a humble tact. This guy owns a lot of big corporations and companies and he could have easily went the high road. However instead he decided to be a little more laid back, relaxed, and funny. In fact he even took jabs at himself several times including the highly applauded “Undisputed Number 3″ comment.

It was fun and refreshing to see MVP go up stage and deliver a talk like this one. Many many many thanks to the organizers of this year’s Ad Congress for being able to put all three big bosses together on one stage. It was definitely one spectacle that will live on even in history books.
