Blog World Philippines 2010: Make Money Blogging Talk

I was invited to give a 45-minute talk on how to make money with blogging during the recent Blog World Philippines 2010 conference at Crossroads 77, QC. I was initially expecting around 500 participants but I was really surprised when I saw that the entire auditorium was filled to the brim! According to the organizers, more than 1,000 people actually attended the conference. The talks were actually divided into two groups. I had several speakers in my team who talked about making money through blogging which included multi-millionaire bloggers Philip Tiangson and Julius Sison. Financial blogger...

AISEC Ateneo’s Empowering Youth Entrepreneurship Seminar 2010

I’ll be giving a talk this Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the Ateneo De Manila for AISEC’s Empowering Youth Entrepreneurship Seminar 2010. As most of you know I studied for 16 years in the Ateneo so I always make it a point to accept any speaking engagements that I get from that school. It’s always an honor to give back to the institution which played a critical role in molding my character and skills. My only worry right now is that I have a cold, haha. Hopefully I can get better so that I won’t have to keep on sneezing while giving my presentation. The topic will be “Talking...

Free Kindle eBook Readers for 17M Filipinos

So did that title catch your attention? Hahaha! It sure did get mine when I heard it from Senator Dick Gordon during the presidential debate held at DLSU. In one of his answers, Gordon explained that one of his plans was to give away FREE Kindles to all public school students. Basically he wanted to put the entire curriculum of Grade School to College. This is by far one of the boldest statements I’ve heard from a politician about how he plans to uplift the insane state of our education system. To fund the project, Gordon lays out several options and back-up plans available: He also mapped...

Online Marketing Talk at St. Scholastica

I was invited by Ms. Katrina Lim to give a talk on internet marketing opportunities for the Filipino youth at St. Scholastica in Manila last week. I usually give talks to schools because one of my passions in life is to share knowledge with the youth and to inspire them to be more aggressive in reaching their dreams. Anyway, I was initially surprised to see men in the audience. I asked the organizers if St. Scho had male students and apparently the event was a joint project between St. Scholastica and San Beda University. “Cool, this event is a talk and a soiree,” I thought to myself,...

It will definitely be on a Saturday afternoon in February. I’m still finalizing the date so I can’t announce which Saturday it will be. Also, it will most likely...

Department of Health website hacked twice in December

The Department of Health official website was hacked twice in December. This is a strong signal for the Philippine government to seriously consider upgrading their websites. And I’m not just talking about security, but the over-all quality. Most of the government websites literally look like crap and these needs to be fixed. We have so many good talents here in the country that can do globally competitive web and graphic design. Here’s a screenshot of the DOH site hacked. Picture courtesy of GMA7. Here’s the official statement of DOH re: the issue: “Wala kaming ginagawang...

Bloggers talk about the New Friendster

Last Tuesday night we had an exclusive dinner party for Filipino bloggers at the National Sports Grill restaurant in Greenbelt 3. During the event, Friendster Vice President and Global Head for Brand Experience, Ben Dunn, gave everyone a sneak peek at the new Friendster which is set to launch soon. It was good to see the positive reaction of the bloggers. We’ve been working really hard on the relaunch and re-branding for the past few months. More than the features though, I’m particularly proud about how the new brand will be executed. By the way, we’ll be having a press conference...

DigitalFilipino 2009 Professional Blog Winner

Other than giving a talk during the recently concluded DigitalFilipino E-Commerce Summit 2009, I also received and award for the 2009 DigitalFilipino Professional Blog! New Media Philippines won and feel very honored to have been recognized in such a big event. They gave all the speakers around 5 minutes to give a short talk on best practices. I gave one which pretty much sums up all of my blogging experience and fortunately Janette recorded it and uploaded my quick speech online. It’s only 2 minutes, please do take the time to listen to my story. Find more videos like this on DigitalFilipino.com...

DigitalFilipino E-Commerce Summit 2009: Going Beyond Clicks

I represented Friendster in the recently concluded DigitalFilipino E-Commerce Summit 2009 and gave a short 15 minute presentation on how to maximize self-service advertising platforms. However, instead of doing an instructional approach, I focused more on important insights that marketers can apply when they want to get into online advertising. I had a lot of fun preparing and doing the presentation so I’d like to thank Janette Toral for the opportunity to share my passion for internet marketing with a very cool and good audience. The main premise of my talk was about how a lot of advertisers...

Personal Branding: You are Media

Paul Pena, one of my contacts in Facebook, mentioned a term that I won’t forget. We were discussing Personal Branding when he said “You 2.0“. It pretty much sums up what personal branding is in terms of the online space and I wanted to tackle that a bit in this post. One of the questions I often get asked is if I know all the people who are following me on Twitter or are friends with me on Facebook or Twitter. My answer is obvious – of course I don’t know them. I probably personally know less than half. Why then to I keep adding and adding? Because I believe that everyone...

No Nonsense Finance Seminar by Randell Tiongson

Personal Finance Coach Randell Tiongson is having another run of his successful “No Nonsense Personal Finance” seminar this coming November 7, 2009. I’ve heard Randell speak several times already and he’s a shining example of an entertaining and content-driven speaker. You won’t get bored and you’ll learn new stuff! He’s actually a rare breed these days since a lot of speakers are either all content and boring, or all laughs but zero content. Mark your calendar folks! I’m sure that you’ll learn a lot of things that will give you a better life...

EARIST Cavite Campus Talk

I was invited over the weekend to give a talk on “E-Trepreneurship” at the EARIST Cavite Campus. They initially asked me to talk for three hours on how the internet can make them globally competitive. Bulk of the presentation went there but I also made it a point to share with them some tips and advice on what they should focus on after they graduate. Most of the attendees were 2nd-4th year college students so the topic was timely and appropriate. I’m actually used to presenting in business conferences so this set-up was new for me but I enjoyed it a lot. It felt really good sharing...

SMART Bro B Free Day

SMART Bro’s latest event and promotion really caught me by surprise. They had an event called SMART Bro B Free Day at the Mega Tent along Meralco Avenue. In the event, they gave away 10,000 free units of the UAAP/NCAA designed SMART Bro USB Plug-it modems to students. I was invited by Havoc Digital and SMART to cover the event as a blogger and I obliged. The event was a whole day affair with various booths, raffles, and band performances. Here’s the trailer that they released on Youtube. I’m a bit curious though as to why only less than 500 were able to view the trailer. Maybe...
