Let me congratulate fellow blogger Marck Rimorin for taking his game up a notch by joining NetBooster Asia as their Social Media Officer. Marck actually told this to me during the recent Microsoft Blogger’s VIP night but I didn’t blog about it since I didn’t know if it was a secret or anything. Anyway, NetBooster recently released a study on how the Presidential candidates are using Social Media and it pretty much jives with what I also said in my earlier interview with Beth in ABS-CBN.
What’s new in this study is that they also discussed how the candidates are with Twitter. I didn’t touch on this during my interview with Beth. Here’s a quote from the article on the ABS-CBN News site:
Estrada’s campaign was the earliest adopter of the social networking platform Twitter, according to the study, having created the account @PresidentErap on May 10, 2009. Gordon was the last candidate to adopt Twitter. The study shows that account @dickgordon2010 was created on October 31, 2009.
According to the study’s data, the Twitter account with the most followers is not the one with the most tweets. The Twitter account @noynoyaquino has the greatest number of followers, with 37,911. The account has only 47 Tweets. The Twitter account @Manny_Villar has 172 tweets and 1,311 followers. The account @giboteodoro has 32 and 10,376 followers.
This data shows that the people running the social media marketing of these candidates need to pick up the slack. They’re probably just tweeting press release links and updates. They’re no properly maximizing social media. Another thing I’d like to comment on is the fact that these candidates also started late with their campaigns. Social Media is NOT a one night stand. Obama was on social media long before he declared his bid for the Presidency.
Anyway, let me just send a shout out again to Marck. Welcome to the professional social media marketing industry bro! Hope to see more often in events.
