I was finally able to watch the movie Julie & Julia last night and I appreciated all the lessons it imparted to me as a blogger. In one of the scenes, Julie is confronted by her husband because she’s been having too many meltdowns and she’s getting to stressed/affected by her blogging. This damages their relationship and turns everything sour – including Julie’s blogging. I think this is a valuable lesson that we all have to take to heart as bloggers.

At the end of the day, readers are just readers. The world does not revolve on what they say and their comments. The most important things are actually the people close to us that we tend to take for granted when we find a new shiny toy to focus on our attention on (like blogging). I remember going through something like this when I first made Waukster Online and I had a lot of negative comments from LU Gamers each time there was a problem with any of the games we published. I would really stress out and I’d snap at Mich and obviously this would hurt her. It communicates the wrong thing… by making the blog a priority, you’re literally telling her that the blog is more important than her, which is just absurd.
And that lesson applies to everything that you do that takes your attention away from your wife, family, and dear friends.
Spread the love this Christmas season! Stop blogging and spend more time with your family and loved ones! Uh… I should stop too, haha!
