Big Bad Blogger discussed in DigitalFilipino Talks interview

I was invited by Janette Toral to do an episode of her online talk show, DigitalFilipino Talks. We were supposed to talk about social media and personal branding but bulk of the discussion really went into the Big Bad Blogger issue. It was an interesting exchange with Janette and we pretty much share the same views. By the way before we get into the video let me just give an update on the said issue. A lot of bloggers were eagerly waiting for the next column of the writer who wrote the article on Inquirer. I checked this Sunday’s issue and there wasn’t any new entry from her. I wonder if she’ll ever talk about this ever again or will the Big Bad Blogger fade into obscurity?

(Fast forward to the middle part if you want to listen to just the Big Bad Blogger discussion)

Some of the major points that I raised:

  • Categorically denied I was the BBB. Heard from some friends that a few bloggers were saying I was the next suspect after Anton Diaz from OAP. Yes, I’m big. Yes I have a food blog and was a social media consultant. However I don’t like big cameras and I never charge for food reviews.
  • From a marketing standpoint, the restaurant owner overreacted. They could have easily countered it by inviting more bloggers who would give “balanced” reviews, especially if their food is that good. Now if most of the bloggers invited also gave bad reviews then the owner should look closely at her products.
  • Pointed out the bad practice of a lot of PR firms and consultants claiming that they “represent” or that they have “good ties” with influential bloggers. Maybe bloggers should have a “I am not represented by a PR firm badge” on their sidebar? Lol.

Until new credible information comes up about the BBB this will probably be the last time I talk about the said issue.

  2. The more you become popular, the more you have people who want to pull you down. There’s never a shortage of “crabs” in the world. Call them “useless anxieties.”

  3. That’s what happens when our culture is ruled by the mob. I doubt you’re the BBB. And great interview. It’s nice to see something like this from two people I highly respect. :)
