What are the best BlackBerry Twitter Apps? This is a question I keep getting from a lot of my friends and colleagues who’ve made the switch to BlackBerry smart phones. They switch mostly because of the classy and professional brand of the BlackBerry combined with the affordable plans being offered by both SMART and Globe for the Bold and Curve units. Anyway, there are three major Twitter apps that people can use for their BlackBerry phones and I’ll go through each of them in this post. Just pick the one that you think will match your needs.
OpenBeak
The first BlackBerry app that I recommend is OpenBeak. This is a fairly simple and easy-to-use app which offers quick Twitter updates. The default page when you open the app is the message screen where you type your message. This is a very useful app especially when you are doing live Tweeting or you just like updating everyone while you’re on the go. You can still check out the updates of your friends, mentions, and messages, but you’ll have to open the menu to view them. I always have OpenBeak on my BlackBerry for the easy updating feature and it won’t really hurt to have multiple Twitter apps since they’re all free anyway. Since I do a lot of live Tweeting for events, this is simply a must have app for my BlackBerry.
UberTwitter
UberTwitter was touted by BlackBerry experts to be the very best Twitter BlackBerry app and for a while I agreed with them. UberTwitter is a major improvement from OpenBeak because it shows you everything you need to see on Twitter in a clean, organized, and stylish manner. It’s very easy to navigate and you can find everything you need in a Twitter app in it. The major problem I have with this app is that it’s kinda slow in refreshing and showing recent updates. There were also some instances when the app hanged and I had to restart my BlackBerry (which is a huge pain since it takes a while to reboot a BlackBerry phone). If the developers manage to fix these two minor problems then I’d use UberTwitter more often.
Official Twitter BlackBerry App
It took awhile but Twitter finally released the official BlackBerry app and I personally think that it’s the best available free app in the market. It basically does everything that UberTwitter does but it doesn’t hang and the loading time is much faster than UberTwitter. I also find the UI much more relaxing and appealing compared to UberTwitter. This app was definitely worth the wait.
If you’re using unlimited data plans then you can probably afford to turn on the feature of Twitter and UberTwitter to automatically refresh every now and then so you can quickly see new updates. There’s also an option to have a notice for new tweets, direct messages, and mentions which will be showed on your home screen. If you’re not using unlimited data plans better turn this off or your monthly bill might sky rocket.
Note that my preference for the official Twitter app is a bit subjective so you might want to give UberTwitter a try to check if it suits you better. In my phone I currently have OpenBeak and Twitter installed for the reasons stated above.
Hope you find this post helpful! Cheers.
By the way, you might want to check out my post about the new BlackBerry Bold 9650.

Since I’m new to BB, and I haven’t subscribed to the unlimited data plans of Smart, I haven’t tried the three apps. Those three, in order to be accessed, requires you to subscribe with the data plans available in the market. Using your wifi as a substitute to the data plans won’t work.
This is very helpful!!!
Went from the original twitter app to ubertwitter. Had no problems at first but now it seems to get slower and slower. Ill try out the offical app!
