Apple sold iPads faster than the iPhone?

Despite all the negative criticism from tech bloggers, magazines, and various sites, Apple is making a killing with the iPad. According to this article on Mashable, the iPad sold 600,000-700,000 on it’s first day. This is way above the predictions of analysts who predicted that Apple’s latest device would only be able to do 200,000-300,000 sales during the first day. The same article says that it took Apple 74 days to sell 1 million units of the iPhone, and 3 days to sell a million units of the later versions (3G and 3Gs).

It looks like all the hype and buzz paid off for Steve Jobs. Their marketing efforts have literally created a space in between laptops and mobile phones for a third device.

On a separate note, I dropped by Power Mac this afternoon and I was told by the cashier that they’re expecting the iPad to be on their shelves either first or second week of May. I doubt it if the iPad will receive the same level of support here than it did in the US but there’s definitely a market for it.

    • Yep most likely Jam! I loved how NY Times put it – “the last time a tablet got so much attention was when it had commandments on it” (something like that, lol).

  2. The ten commandments LOL. Tablets can even replace our books in school.

  3. I read in the newspaper that many of the people who bought are the early adopters. So the numbers does not necessarily reflect the overall market demand.
