2009 Philippine Blog Awards Nominations Now Open!

philippineblogawards2009

The 2009 Philippine Blog Awards website got updated last night. They did an overhaul of the site design and also announced the mechanics and even started the nomination process already. First off, let me give props to the organizers. They did a fantastic job with the site. I love the color scheme and the over-all look and functionality. Another thing that’s nice to see is that they really worked a lot on the mechanics and even added new categories. The thing I loved the most though is their tag line/slogan – One Blogging Nation. Whoever made that copy should get an award. A few observations and insights about the 2009 Philippine Blog Awards after the break.

Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao
The biggest change for this year’s awards is that they will have physical events outside of Metro Manila. Based on the information on their site, they will also have an awards ceremony in Visayas (Cebu) and Mindanao (Cagayan De Oro). This is a timely move, seeing as we now have a lot of very good bloggers in those areas. In fact, I think they are more united versus the Metro Manila bloggers. Let me just take this chance to congratulate Kevin Ray Chua, one of the prime movers behind the Cebu Bloggers Society, for organizing the bloggers in Cebu.

New Categories
They’ve also expanded the awards to include new categories. This is a another good move because this gives chance to more bloggers to be recognized. I was a bit disappointed though since there wasn’t a Marketing Blog Category so I can nominate New Media Philippines, haha. Here are the new categories:

Videocast*
The blog that moving images: videocasts or vlogs. These are the items we download from the blog or delivered to us by RSS. They may span from one minute to an hour. NOTE ALL CONTENTS MUST BE ORIGINAL.

Podcast*
The blog that posts sound: podcasts and videocasts. These are the items we download from the blog or delivered to us by RSS. They may span from one minute to an hour.

Humor*
A blog that focuses on putting a smile on a readers face and/or a series of giggles of ha ha has from its readers. It is hard to do comedy whether it be witty or just being plain pleasantly silly.

Gaming*
A blog that focuses on games both online and offline: Whether the game is played on an actual chess board or a virtual one.

Advocacy*
A blog that activelt supports a cause, causes or an idea. A blog that champions, advocates, argues, support, looks for support and even pleads for a cause whether it be social, political or ecological.

Beauty*
A blog focuses on beauty. It talks about; gives advise; and shows how beauty is taken cared of and even accenuated in order to look more pleasant to the eye.

New Media Philippines Nominated
This blog was nominated for the Top 10 Posts Category in the Special Awards. I’m thinking of entering the highly controversial and much talked about 4 Types of Bloggers Post for that. It stirred a lot of discussions which I think ultimately helped the blogging community as a whole. It opened a lot of eyes, including mine. For more details about the nomination process, please click here. You can nominate your own blog or you can nominate someone else.

Anyway, let me just thank the organizers for setting this event up. Good luck to you guys and I wish you all the best! Cheers!

  1. Thanks for the mention Carlo! Indeed, the Cebu Bloggers Society has come a long way from just being a mere e-group into an active group of Cebu-based bloggers.

  3. Yup but unfortunately, I was informed by the Ople Center that Ma’am Toots can’t attend the event due to a conflict of schedule. Sayang, pero we will try our best to make the event a success.
