I recently came from a seminar wherein the speakers talked about how hard it is to become wealthy these days. He sited some stats from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. According to his presentation, out of 100 Filipinos who started working at the age of 25, only 1% becomes wealthy. 4% will be able to raise adequate capital to just survive, 29% will die, and 63% will probably still be working or dependent on charity. This is such a powerful and scary statement. If you are living a normal life and you’re just working “enough”, then it will be a miracle for you to become part of that 1%. This underscores the importance of having a winning mindset and attitude as early as possible.
Culture of Mediocrity
If you read deeper into the stats, you probably might think that the problem is deep rooted in our “Pwede Na” culture. It’s really not just the responsibility of schools to teach children about values. Developing a winning mindset and passion should also be done in the homes so that the youth will take up leadership roles as soon as they can.
Here’s the big question to parents: Are you raising your children to be part of the 1% who will become wealthy? Out of the 90 million Filipinos next year, only 900,000 will be wealthy. That’s a scary thought don’t you think? Are you doing better than the other 89,100,000 Filipinos out there? For the youth: Are you even thinking about stuff like this? Let’s face reality that life is not just about fun and games. Learn the value of hard work.
Never knew that our high school motto in Ateneo actually was so applicable to life. MAGIS – or the passion for excellence should be a staple value that you teach to the next generation now more than ever.

What is the definition of a wealthy person? Being wealthy is subjective. Is it based on your net worth? It would help if the speaker clarified this.
Filipinos are very religious people with more than hundred religions….that’s why they are spiritually wealthy….Even Health is also a Wealth…
